As Sisters of Notre Dame we are consecrated for mission in the Church.  We respond to the ever-new call of mission through our various ministries, both locally and globally. In 1949 the Sisters of Notre Dame of Christ the King Province began a mission in India. Now, more than 60 years later, we have more than 270 Indian Sisters who carry out the mission work in their own country.  This work includes all forms of education, health care, social work and spirituality.  The Sisters place a special emphasis on the empowerment of women and girls.  Our Indian missionaries touch thousands of lives each day. Now the Sisters of Notre Dame in India have been established as Our Lady of the Assumption Province in Patna, and Our Lady of the Visitation Province in Bangalore.

In spite of the continuing needs in their own country, in 1992 our Indian missionaries responded to the call of Pope John Paul II to send missionaries to Africa.  They now minister in five locations in Tanzania and two in Kenya.  Three groups of African Sisters have professed their vows as Sisters of Notre Dame.

At the invitation of Bishop Carlos Enrique Herrera, the Sisters of Notre Dame, Chardon Province, began a mission in Nicaragua on July 26, 2008. Four American Sisters went to Jinotega to minister in the parish of Sangre de Cristo. They accompany the people in order to discover their needs, especially revitalizing catechesis, empowering women, and finding ways to improve their economic condition.
