Listen to God speaking in your life. God’s speaks to us in the everyday of our lives, through prayer, scripture, music, books, dreams, movies, nature, and through other people.

Find a good spiritual director. Look for a prayerful spiritual companion, someone you can trust who has the ability to listen, someone wise and understanding who can also challenge you to grow.

Trust that God will lead you. “I know the plans I have for you; plans for a future full of hope.” – Jer. 29:11 The answers will come. Sometimes we have to risk stepping out in faith. Then “trust your visions” and dare to live according to the Spirit’s guidance. God’s amazing grace will be with you.

If you are considering a call to religious life…
Consider religious life as a real option, just as you would marriage or the single life. This requires prayerful consideration over a period of time, not just a “quick look.”

Get information about different religious communities. Most have websites. We invite you to explore this one. Visit http://visionguide.org and request a copy of Vision, a religious vocation discernment guide with information on many religious communities.

Talk to a vocation director. A good vocation director will be able to help you listen to God’s call. She knows her community and will be able to help you discern if it might be the place where God is leading you. Ultimately, the decision is yours. (Click on “Contact the Vocation Director.”)

Gather information about a community, schedule a visit, and spend time with some of the members. Most communities offer several opportunities to experience their way of life. (See our calendar of events) During this process of getting to know a community, you might want to consider the following: Do I feel God calling me here? Could I feel at home with the sisters in this community? Do I resonate with their mission? Will my gifts help further the mission?
