Because I’m semi-retired, I now have two jobs instead of one. I am a Junior High Math Assistant at St. Helen Catholic School in Newbury and I am the coordinator of the Notre Dame Skills Lab in Chardon. When I left full time teaching I took a year off to explore new options. During that time I realized how much I missed working with students. That led me to accept two wonderful opportunities.
Every morning I travel to St. Helen School and teach Algebra to the top eighth grade students. It’s really a dream job. After my class I work with younger students who need help in math. My second job is as coordinator and tutor at Notre Dame Skills Lab. Depending on the need, I tutor three or four days a week and coordinate the schedules for two other Sister tutors.
What I love most about my job is being with the “kids.” I can challenge my Algebra students and help them soar. For those who need help I can bolster confidence in their math ability and improve their self-esteem.
I experience “God’s Goodness and Provident Care” in everyone I meet in my ministry, especially the students. I strongly believe that we are in each other’s lives this school year for a reason. We have something to give and receive from each other. I pray that we will all be open to that gift.
